Water Safety in the Pool

Focusing on training water safety and basic swimming skills in the pool. Must complete water safety in the classroom and have access to a pool to be eligible.

Water Safety in the Pool is designed to help educators to teach water safety to children ages 2-14. Prior to taking this course, all educators must have enrolled and successfully completed Water Safety in the Classroom. All the methods discussed in this course are appropriate for teaching in a pool setting only.

Tell Me More. This course is presented using video demonstrations. Once you have viewed all the materials, you will be required to submit a video demonstration for review by the instructor. Upon successful completion, you will be emailed a Certificate of Completion.

Kara Cassidy considers herself to be a swimmer by marriage, being introduced to all facets of the sport by her husband and his colleagues, finding her passion with teaching swimming, which she started to practice in 1995. She completed her first swimming race in 1999 – a one-mile ocean swim in South Jersey. Kara served in many administrative and coaching roles since then with the swimming community in both New Jersey and Florida.

In 1999, Kara founded the Seacats Swim School in New Jersey and has taught swim lessons and water safety to thousands of people of all ages. Kara was recognized by the Atlantic City Chamber of Commerce as “Top 40 Under 40” in Southern New Jersey for making a positive influence in the community.

In 2005, Kara founded Saint Andrew’s Swim School in Boca Raton. Also in 2005, Kara and her husband began and currently own Saint Andrew’s Aquatics, www.saaquatics.com which includes USA Swimming and USA Water Polo teams.

In 2013, Saint Andrew’s Swim School became Florida Swim School www.flswimschool.com in Boca Raton, which is nationally recognized as a premier learn-to- swim program for all ages. Florida Swim School opened the area’s only indoor swim school in June 2015 and still provides lessons at Saint Andrew’s School for their students.

Kara and Sid have two children: son Quinn who swam and studied at University of Florida and currently coaches at Saint Andrew’s Aquatics; daughter Kate competes in water polo at Arizona State University.

How long will it take me to complete this course?
This course is comprised of one video with a total viewing time of about 25 minutes. Learners are required to view the video in its entirety before being eligible to submit a video for review by the instructor.
Do I have to complete the course all at once?
No. You can start and stop at any time. This is a self-directed course that you complete at our own pace.
Will I receive something to show that I finished the course?
Yes. Upon successfully viewing of the videos and submitting a video for review, a certificate of completion will be sent to your email address.
What if I don’t submit a video?
A video submission is a requirement for this course. This demonstrates to the instructor that you have adequate knowledge of the materials and are prepared to teach water safety in a pool environment.
Can I take the Water Safety in the Pool Course without taking Water Safety in the Classroom Course?
No. This course is designed to build on knowledge learned in Water Safety in the Classroom course.
